Wynyard Central wins Best Multi-Unit category at Home Awards

12 April 2019

Wynyard Central was awarded the best multi-unit residential development at the much lauded Home of the Year Awards last week. This is the first project to be awarded this category in a number of years and lies testament to the continued focus on urban density within Auckland city.

The development adds to the experience of Wynyard Quarter being a vibrant, people-focused neighbourhood. Home to a 113 units, Wynyard Central offers a diverse range of housing typologies across three residential designs; the timber-clad Daldy Street Pavilions, the brick-clad Mews Houses, and the impressive concrete and steel Artisan Apartment building. Open and generous in its connections with the surrounding parks, the project also delivers new public laneways which are activated by 14 front doors and ten commercial tenancies.

Architectus has been involved at Wynyard Quarter since the beginning of the area’s regeneration, appointed by Ports of Auckland to develop the urban design framework in the early 2000s. The project went on to win the 2012 New Zealand Architecture Award for Planning and Urban Design. Wynyard Central adds to this vision and delivers a new neighbourhood with a distinct character.

Continuing the success of this project, Andrew Eagles, CEO of the New Zealand Green Building Council presented property developers, Willis Bond, with Homestar 7/8 certificates last week. The development is the first to be rated under the updated Homestar tool, adapted specifically for multi-unit developments.
