University of NSW Village Student Housing Planning Approval

University of NSW Village Student Housing Planning Approval

Architectus town planners coordinated all planning approvals for UNSW Village - the University of New South Wales’ new student housing development located at the Kensington Campus in Sydney.

UNSW Village provides new self contained accommodation on a 1.8 hectare site situated within the university campus. The development provides a total of 240 self contained units comprising 1021 bedrooms, together with a range of common facilities.

Planning services for the project were carried out under a Part 3A Major Project process. This included seeking declaration of the project as a ‘Major Project’ from the NSW Minister for Planning, preparation of the Environmental Assessment, Preparation of the Preferred Project Report and receipt of development conditions and approval.

Subsequent planning services have included development applications for land subdivision and alterations and additions to heritage buildings.

Town planning issues affecting the project included residential amenity, urban design, heritage and visual impact, sustainability and the interface of the Village with the main campus and local neighbourhood.
