Dawn Blessing at Community Lane Avondale

At dawn on Monday 18 March, a blessing was held to mark the completion of the final stage of Community Lane, Aotearoa’s largest social housing development. Delivered by Kāinga Ora and designed by Architectus, the development now comprises 236 healthy and comfortable homes across five buildings—transforming what was once a site of 45 ageing state houses into a thriving, high-quality urban community.

Led by mana whenua and attended by the project team and community members, the blessing acknowledged the journey of the project and welcomed the next stage as new residents prepare to move in. Many of those moving into the fifth and final building will be older citizens and those with health needs, supported by accessible design and shared spaces, including communal lounges and landscaped gardens.

Architectus is proud to have worked alongside Kāinga Ora and CMP Construction to deliver a people-centred design that supports connectivity, safety, and wellbeing in the heart of Avondale.
