KiwiHarvest celebrates opening of new Auckland facility
Architectus joined the Goodman Property Trust volunteer project team for the realisation of a new office and food distribution facility for local charity KiwiHarvest.
KiwiHarvest began operating in Auckland in March 2015 with the purpose of redistributing excess food to those in need before it goes to waste. From start up, the project has been so successful that the team now delivers the equivalent of over 20,000 meals to 100 plus Auckland charities every month. The completion of a distribution and management facility means KiwiHarvest will be able to accept progressively larger food donations and manage the increased logistics of getting this food delivered across the city.
Located in a corner of a carpark within Goodman’s Central Park business park, the new KiwiHarvest HQ incorporates a staff office and amenities building and a food storage and sorting building. The build solution follows the KiwiHarvest values of sustainable, ecological methods by using modified shipping containers which provide a cost efficient build and also allows for future relocation or reconfiguration options.
The official opening on Wednesday, 22nd February was supported by the Goodman Trust project team, with the Goodman Foundation, the Auckland Mayor and other KiwiHarvest sponsors joining to celebrate the new expansion and the opportunity it provides for the charity’s mission and future goals.
