Major Milestone Reached for New Papakura Courthouse

The modular components for the new Papakura Courthouse have now been installed on site at 40 Elliot Street, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of the project.

The project is being delivered for the Ministry of Justice, with Architectus leading the design and Southbase Construction delivering the building under a design-and-build contract. A key feature of the project is its use of modular and prefabricated construction methods. A substantial portion of the building structure has been manufactured offsite before being transported to Papakura and installed on site. This approach supports efficient construction while enabling key components of the building to potentially be reused or repurposed in the future.

The new facility will ensure justice services continue to be delivered in Papakura and will include three courtrooms, hearing rooms, public waiting areas, registry services, judges’ chambers, custody facilities, and dedicated spaces for vulnerable witnesses.

Construction is continuing on site, with the new courthouse expected to be completed in late 2026.
