Three Architectus Projects win at the 2025 NZIA Local Awards

Three Architectus projects have been recognised at the 2025 New Zealand Architecture Regional Awards, presented by Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA, across both the Auckland and Canterbury regions.

Auckland Local Awards
– SeaLink Wynyard Ferry Terminal – Commercial Architecture
– Catalina Bay Apartments – Housing (Multi-Unit)

Canterbury Local Awards
– Upper West Sports Centre – Education Architecture

SeaLink Wynyard Ferry Terminal

Located on the western edge of Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, SeaLink provides a vital link to the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, carrying vehicles, passengers and freight.

The jury praised the building as:
“a strong presence in the industrial port environment,” noting how it “transcends its prosaic purpose” through a façade that evokes the surrounding context “in a poetic way.” The jury also acknowledged the design for its “elegant, strong” expression of cultural narrative, function, and place.

Catalina Bay Apartments

Located in Hobsonville Point, Catalina Bay Apartments received an award in the Housing – Multi-Unit category.

The Jury noted:
“This is a large building elegantly conceived as ‘a series of architectural objects’… “Despite Catalina Bay’s ambitious programmatic aspirations, this building never feels overbearing or dominating of its context. Almost classical, it is a reminder of how good architecture can enrich the public realm.”

Upper West Sports Centre – Christ’s College, Christchurch

Awarded in the Education category at the 2025 Canterbury Architecture Awards, the Upper West Sports Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that enhances Christ’s College’s sports and physical education offering. The Jury stated:
“While splendid in scale and amenity, it is the obvious care that has been put into the finer architectural details that sets this building apart as an exemplar of its type”.
