Catalina Bay:
Residential development announced

Architectus has been working with overall precinct developer, Willis Bond & Co. to design the first residential development within the Catalina Bay master plan.

Catalina Bay is a mixed-use precinct located at the tip of Hobsonville Point. Historically owned by the Royal New Zealand Air force, ‘the landing’ was originally the home and launching site for the Catalina flying-boats.

The project sits within a master plan which sets to transform this former under-utilised waterfront land into an active seaside village blending retail, hospitality, commercial and residential facilities.

The Catalina Bay Apartments will sit amongst a collection of historical hangars, responding to this unique location through the use of articulated proportions and contextual materials. The development comprises a 13-level, 71 unit waterfront apartment building and nine townhouses, with all units offering panoramic water views.

“It was important to us that we create something that respects and acknowledges both the rich history of the site, and the coastal location. It feels as much a part of the water as part of the land.”
