CTBUH Global Walking Tour:
50 Forward |
Having been involved in the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Global Walking Tours for the last four years, Architectus took up the role of hosting this year’s walk again. The Global Walking Tours have been held since 2014 to celebrate urban habitat aspects that make cities great. Planned in tandem with 25 other tours taking place around the world (with the city of Auckland being the first cab off the rank), this year’s theme was “50 Forward | 50 Back,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of CTBUH through exploring the recent history and sustainable future of cities around the world.
The Auckland edition of the Global Walk Tour kicked off with a visit to the 27th floor of 151 Queen Street (SAP Tower), a tower constructed in 1989. From there, participants proceeded across the corner to explore the historic South British Insurance Building, where they were allowed roof terrace access on the 9th floor.
The tour continued to the Vero Centre, where the group enjoyed sights of the city and harbour from the 37th floor of the iconic high-rise office tower. Next, the tour proceeded to the sales suite of the Shundi’s Seascape building, a 187-meter residential tower and mixed-use podium currently under construction.
Finally, the tour concluded with drinks, networking, and more breathtaking views of the city and harbour from a rooftop bar in the newly converted former Reserve Bank Building.
