Education projects recognised at NZIA Auckland Awards

The New Zealand Institute of Architects’ Auckland branch recognised two of Architectus’ projects in this years local awards programme held at MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) last week.

Alfred Nathan House and The Science Centre, both University of Auckland projects, received a Heritage and Education category award respectively.  These projects will now go on to be considered in the NZIA national awards programme, New Zealand Architecture Award later this year.

The University of Auckland Science Centre: 2018 Auckland Education Architecture Award winner

The University of Auckland Science Centre (Education)

“Stimulated by an abstract molecular motif on the façade, this bold transformation of a busy corner site cleverly integrates the existing buildings within the University of Auckland’s Science precinct. The design, which resolves a highly complicated programme and interface with existing buildings, successfully achieves an animated series of spaces and establishes a strong gateway and connection to the rest of the University. Opportunistic use of leftover interstitial spaces is a strength of this project.”
