Tūranga wins Supreme Award
Tūranga scoops 2019 PCNZ Supreme Award
Tūranga, Christchurch’s new central library, won the Supreme Award at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards at Spark Arena in Auckland on Friday, 14 June 2019. The Awards recognise the property industry’s continual evolution and growth and celebrates projects that are innovative, sustainable, and deliver a financial and/or social return.
Having won the Best in Category award in the Warren and Mahoney Civic and Arts category, the project stood against eleven best in category winners before taking out the prestigious Supreme Award.
The biggest public library in the South Island, Tūranga is one of nine anchor projects playing a key role in the rebuild and regeneration of the city. Judges cited Tūranga as a visually stunning symbol of hope, unity and rebirth, shaping the way the community and visitors experience Christchurch’s City Centre. “Tūranga encompasses a wide range of facilities for the community, including a heritage collection, an innovation zone, music and video studios, a 200-seat arena, a café and outdoor roof terraces. There is a high level of community pride and ownership in Tūranga which will ensure it remains relevant to the city and community for decades to come.”
Architectus was project partner on two additional Excellence Awards winning projects. Excellence awards are presented to properties deemed to be among the best in their chosen category, and that symbolise excellence within the property industry across all aspects of the evaluation criteria.
Wynyard Central, an urban waterfront community offering a mix of inner-city residential options within Wynyard Quarter was awarded Excellence in the Housing New Zealand Multi-Unit Residential category. No. 1 Sylvia Park (also known as ANZ Raranga), a distinctive and sustainably designed 5-Star Green Star commercial development, the first within the iconic Sylvia Park shopping centre, picked up a RCP Commercial Office Excellence Award.
