Figtree Park is undergoing an extensive rejuvenation project as part of the New South Wales Government’s Public Spaces Legacy Program.

As lead consultant, our Landscape team’s role was to enrich the park’s landscape, ultimately providing a more enjoyable space for the community.

Starting with a wide lens, an initial design move was to expand the park towards Hunters Hill Village and create a new entry plaza.

By forging a stronger connection between the village and the park, the design seamlessly supports accessibility and passive surveillance while also inviting increased use. The new entry plaza provides vistas into the verdant, tree-filled landscape of Figtree Park.

A balance of progress and tradition

The project epitomised a delicate dance between progress and tradition, ensuring that the park’s cherished heritage and the established garden aesthetic of Hunters Hill remain intact.

The design aims to preserve the timeless beauty of Hunters Hill while infusing modern elements that elevate the park’s function and aesthetic.

A Design with Country (DwC) process, led by consultant Bangawarra, presented an opportunity to introduce new native and culturally significant species to the park’s existing exotic garden plant palette.

Space for contemplation and interaction

With an emphasis on inclusivity, connections around the site are introduced to ensure accessibility for all, making it easy to explore and enjoy the park’s natural beauty.

Strategically placed seating areas invite contemplation and interaction with nature. A new nature play area is designed to blend harmoniously with the lush tree covered green surroundings of the park.

The comprehensive landscape masterplan includes integration of new stormwater drainage, lighting, and an amenities building to enhance the park overall.
