Northcote Community Hub

The Northcote community hub will enrich Northcote’s transforming town centre by creating a vibrant civic destination that brings together community facilities, open space, and the surrounding greenway. The project integrates a new multi-purpose community hub building with the upgrade of the adjacent Puāwai Cadness Reserve, forming a connected civic landscape that links the revitalised town centre with greenway, Te Ara Awataha, that will link Te Ara Awataha – where the Awataha Stream has been partially daylit as it runs through Northcote.

At the heart of the project is the retention and refurbishment of the heritage-listed Northcote Library building, designed by Hill Manning Mitchell and completed in 1982. The existing building will be carefully restored and extended with a new wing that provides flexible multi-use community spaces, enabling community providers to co-locate alongside the library, including Plunket, Citizens Advice Bureau, Hearts & Minds and NorthArt.

The surrounding landscape and Puāwai Cadness Reserve will be upgraded as part of the project, creating new public spaces that connect the community hub with Te Ara Awataha. Together, the new hub and upgraded reserve, will form a new central focal point for Northcote – connecting locals with community facilities, the revitalised town centre and Te Ara Awataha.
