New Appointments

Architectus is delighted to announce a series of new appointments across our studios in Aotearoa. These appointments acknowledge the invaluable contributions a group of key personnel have made to the practice and reflect our confidence in their ability to strengthen the leadership of the practice into the future.

Principals

We extend our congratulations to Jane Rooney and Melanie Lochore for their appointment as Principals.

Jane is based in our Ōtautahi | Christchurch studio where she is an active contributor to key projects, studio management and also to the industry at large, being an assessor on the NZ Registered Architects Board panel and industry advisor to the ARA Architecture department as well as helping to set-up the Christchurch branch of Architecture + Women New Zealand.

Melanie re-joined our Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland studio in 2019 after a period running her own practice. Melanie works confidently across a number of roles including design brief development, mana whenua and stakeholder engagement and project co-ordination. Melanie is a director of the New Zealand Architects Co-operative Society and Acanthus Ltd and a former member of the Auckland Urban Design Panel and advisor on the Auckland Housing Project Design Review Panel.

Associate Principals

Our congratulations to Chris Guyatt, Jeremy Purcell, Kirk David Smith and Shane Parker on their appointment as Associate Principals.

Chris joined our Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland studio in 2014. He has undertaken leadership roles on key projects such as the Long Bay Village Centre, the Datacom Building in Wynyard Quarter and is currently leading teams on a number of residential developments for Kāinga Ora.

Jeremy joined our Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland studio in 2016 after a period working with Herzog & de Meuron in Switzerland and New York. He has taken leadership roles on key  projects such as the Grafton Hall student accommodation at The University of Auckland and The Pā at the University of Waikato, which is currently under construction.

Kirk has been a key team member for over 15 years and in that time has been instrumental in leading the design development, documentation and delivery of a number of large-scale projects at The University of Auckland and for Mansons TCLM. Kirk leads the Architectus Sustainability Working Group and is a Green Star Professional.

Shane returned to the practice in 2016 after a period working with Rogers Stirk + Harbour in the UK. He has developed strong working relationships with key clients such as Willis Bond and has extensive knowledge of large-scale residential projects and projects in the education sector.

Senior Associates

We congratulate David Cook, John Strand, Kitty Fan, Manuel Morel and Matthew Holloway for their elevation to Senior Associate level.

David joined our Ōtautahi | Christchurch studio in 2020 having relocated to New Zealand from New York to work on the Auckland Domestic Jet Hub project with Grimshaw Architects before the pandemic hit. He has extensive aviation and institutional design experience.

John has been a key team member for over 10 years and has extensive experience in the design development, documentation and delivery of large scale projects in the transport and tertiary sectors across Aotearoa.

Kitty joined Architectus in 2012 and has had significant involvement in tertiary and commercial projects. Kitty also leads our commitment to Architecture + Women New Zealand and our diversity initiatives in the practice.

Manuel joined Architectus in 2005 and has over 15 years’ experience on large scale projects in the transport and tertiary sectors. He has a particular interest in the integration of BIM from project inception through to delivery via BIM co-ordination and clash detection.

Matthew has been with Architectus since 2012 and has worked in both the Auckland and Christchurch studios until establishing the Wellington studio last year. He had a key role in the delivery of the Tūranga, Christchurch’s new central library, and has had extensive experience in the residential and infrastructure sectors.

Associates

A significant number of new Associate appointments reflect the deep pool of talented people at Architectus and we congratulate Charlotte Hoare, Kelly Clark, Lauren Speer, Michael West, Rory Holmes, Thalea Carruthers and Warren Nicholson on their appointment as Associates.

Charlotte is Ōtautahi | Christchurch based and has significant experience of institutional and educational projects.

Kelly is also Ōtautahi | Christchurch based and works predominantly on projects in the educational and multi-unit residential sector.

Lauren is Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland based and works currently in the education sector and has a strong involvement in Architecture + Women New Zealand and diversity initiatives in the practice.

Michael is Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland based and has for many years been responsible for the documentation and delivery of a number of significant commercial and institutional projects.

Rory, as our BIM Manager, is responsible for the continued best-practice implementation of BIM across all Studios. He has developed workflows for managing federated models for asset management delivery, and for leading BIM coordination and management.

Thalea, as our Marketing & Business Development Manager, works closely with our leadership team to implement business development strategies and tender responses as well as managing brand, communications and overall marketing efforts.

Warren is Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland based where he has been a valued team member for a number of years and has significant experience in large-scale residential and education projects. He is also highly skilled in 3D visualisation techniques.
